Day 3 and Character Musings

For those of you who have not read the previous books, you might want to back out now. You probably won't understand a single thing of what I say next. Also, potential spoilers for the previous books...

I love Matt! This entire scene between him and Lex had me cracking up. Of all the people in Lex's life, he is the one that has never held back with her. When shit goes sideways, he's willing to tell her exactly where she screwed up. And when he's done with that, he usually has a pretty good idea how to fix it afterwards.

I am so glad that he's stuck around this long. Honestly, I didn't believe we'd see him again after Oleander. It was a pleasant surprise for me when he reappeared in Valerian and I loved how their relationship changed over the years to the point where his presence was perfectly cemented in Lex's life.

Their relationship is also super interesting in that, even though he doesn't know her as well as Nathan, he's also the only one that kept in constant contact with her after the events of Valerian. So he got to watch it in real time how everything affected her in Hawthorn. Which is something no one else got to see. He was the helping hand that forced her to move on with her life. And most of it was done through video chats and phone calls. Which just goes to show: never underestimate the importance of long distance friends.

For someone like Lex, who likes to believe her own BS, a friend like Matt is invaluable. Because he'll hit her over the head with the truth as long as it takes to get her to give it up. Which is why he's one of my favorite musketeers in the drama that is Lex's life.

Okay, I digress. I'm just really excited to share this with everyone and happy to inform them that there is more Matt in Avens. And he's not pulling any punches.
