NaNoWriMo 2020
Here we are again. Almost November (finally). Which means it's time to do some NaNo prepping.
For the most part, I try not to do rewrites during NaNoWriMo because the pressure of the word count means I churn out piss-poor product. Then I have to rewrite my rewrites. And usually, I'm a 'first draft, one rewrite, multiple edits' kind of person, so I really don't like having to stop mid-rewrite to begin rewriting the book again.
All of that said, I'm using this NaNoWriMo to work on the rewrite for Demon Kin: The Queen.
The first draft is complete, but I know that the finished product will look nothing like it, and I'm okay with that. As is also usual with me, I'd already made one major plot revision in my head before I even finished the first draft, so it made me rush the ending and not put in the proper amount of attention into it. I'm also okay with that.
I'm a pantser, plain and simple. I don't plan anything out before I dive in. But only when it comes to my first drafts.
For the rewrite, I have a greater sense of who the characters are as people, what their goals are, what obstacles stand in their way, and how I want to strengthen things. Which means in these last few days leading up to NaNo, I'm building up lots of potential scene fragments and a ton of notes.
The one thing I still can't get right, however, is the blurb.
So that's what's going on in my little writing world. Keep an eye out for additional posts.
